Standard velocity of 7.62 NATO is 2700-2800fps. M80A1 moves at an astounding 3050fps at 78ft from the muzzle. Likely closer to 3100fps at the muzzle.

The M80A1 is a 7.62 NATO (.308) AP round with a hardened penetrator tip, and is belted with an Enhanced Penetration Red with Dark Red tipped Tracer every fifth round. None of these rounds contain lead in order to have maximum penetration on hard targets while allowing for extreme fragmentation upon reaching a soft target.
